Potter Around is an extremely friendly and welcoming craft studio based in Kirknewton, West Lothian. Potter Around is a studio where everyone and anyone, whatever their skill, can come to be creative, relax and have fun.

There are a number of different types of arts and crafts you can get involved with such as pottery painting, jewellery making and knitting. Along with a fantastic range of activities Potter Around can also provide you with the best tools, materials and most importantly,knowledgeable, friendly staff.

Potter Around’s studio is set in a steading courtyard on a working farm. Inside you will find 3 different rooms- including a specially decorated children’s room which doubles as a play room and party room.

Potter Around has created a welcoming, homely atmosphere and in line with this they provide free tea, coffee and squash for customers. Staff at Potter Around are there to help you as much or as little as you like.

Potter Around has been created for everyone, catering for adults and children alike. As well as dropping in to paint pottery or make jewellery each day, throughout the year a number of workshops and events are offered for both adults and children. There are a number of weekly workshops and clubs that take place:

Monday: 10am-11am Craft ‘n’ a Story for toddlers, £4.50
Monday: 7pm-9pm Oil Painting, £20

Tuesday: 7pm-9pm Jewellery Workshop, £15
Tuesday: 7pm-9pm Knitting Club, £4.50
Tuesday: 7.30pm-9.30pm Potters Wheel Tuition (for groups of 3), £25 each

Wednesday: 10:30-12:30pm Knitting Club, £4.50

Thursday: 10.30pm-12:30pm Oil Painting, £20

Friday: 1.30pm-3pm Kids Club, £10
Friday: 2:30pm- 4:30pm Warhammer in the shed, £4.50

Potter Around’s pricing is very clear and there are no added studio fees, or hidden extras. Credit Cards, Debit Cards, Cheques and Cash accepted.

Potter Around’s studio can be booked for a group or private party and they will happily open outside their normal hours for such a group.

Catering can be arranged or you can bring your own food and wine.

Birthdays being special for your kids, Potter Around can also provide a pottery painting, jewellery or craft party that can be held in their specially decorated party room or they can come to your house or venue.

Potter Around can arrange outside catering for your party or you can bring your own and they provide juice and snacks when held at the studio. Their party room can accommodate up to 12 children, while larger parties can are held in another room. Parties are held for either one and a half hours or two hours depending on the age of the children and of course adults can have parties too for birthdays and hens or just because.

Monday-Saturday: 10am - 5pm

By Rail: Kirknewton is 19 minutes from Edinburgh by train. The Studio is a short walk from Kirknewton Railway Station. From the station walk towards the village. You will pass a school on the right and shortly after you will see the Potter Around sign at the bottom of a farm lane. Follow this lane to the studio. If you need transport from the station, give Potter Around a call before you set off and they’ll try and arrange something for you.

By Bus: The bus stop for both the 28 Edinburgh to Bathgate bus and the 424 Juniper Green to Kirkton Campus bus are at the end of the farm lane leading to Potter Around. It is a short walk up the lane to the studio.

By Car: From Edinburgh, take either the A70 or the A71.

A71- Pass the Dalmahoy Country Club and Hotel. Go through the next two sets of traffic lights. Turn left onto B7031 at the third set of traffic lights. Follow B7031, cross a railway crossing, pass a primary school on right hand side. About 200 yards past the school, you will see the Potter Around sign at the bottom of a farm lane. Follow the lane up and park at the top. Potter Around is in the corner of the steading courtyard.

A70- Take the A70 out past Balerno onto the Lang Wang. Turn right onto B7031 signposted Kirknewton. Follow road downhill, through S bend fringed with trees and follow the road as it curves round to the left. Do not turn right into Kirknewton itself. Take the farm lane immediately after the bus stop on the left hand side by the Potter Around sign. Potter Around is in the corner of the steading courtyard.

From Livingston or Glasgow- On the A71 turn right onto B7031 at the traffic lights that are signposted to Kirknewton. Follow B7031, cross a railway crossing, pass a primary school on the right hand side. About 200 yards past the school, you will see the Potter Around sign at the bottom of a farm lane. Follow the lane up and park at the top. We are in the corner of the steading courtyard.
