The John Muir Way recognises and celebrates the life and legacy of one of Scotland's greatest pioneering conservationist.

The new John Muir Way stretches all the way from Helensburgh in the West to Dunbar on the East Coast.

This beautiful path goes past Linlithgow, where you can visit lots of fun attractions, stay in friendly accommodation, treat yourself to a nice meal in unique venues and enjoy fantastic events!

Here are some key facts about the Way:

  • 134 miles/215km- 9-11 days walking or 4-5 days cycling
  • Fully way-marked
  • 6 country parks
  • 2 canals
  • 5 castles
  • 4 local nature reserves protecting birds, water voles, foxes and amphibians
  • Firth of Forth supporting up to 95,000 wintering birds

You can choose to walk the entire way or only do a section.

Linlithgow/ Linlithgow Bridge

Linlithgow to South Queensferry

Distance: 14 mls/ 23km

Approximate time: 7 hours walking/ 3 hours cycling
